BIBLE STUDY LEADER:  June 30 – July 6, 2024

We are excited to introduce the Rev. Meta Herrick Carlson as the adult Bible study leader for our July family camp.

Meta Herrick Carlson (she/her/hers) is a pastor and poet. Her ministry is rooted in a love for meaningful ritual, accessible language, and healthy communities. Meta’s theology is informed by the sacred wisdom of recovery groups that meet in church basements and the embodied stories of survivors of sexual violence.

Meta’s first book Ordinary Blessings: Prayers, Poems, and Meditations for Everyday Life (Fortress Press, February 2020) proves a worthy gift in these uncertain times. Her second book Speak It Plain: Words for Worship and Life Together (Fortress Press, December 2020) contains blessings and resources for church nerds and liturgical worship communities. Ordinary Blessings for Parents: Prayers, Poems, and Meditations for Family Life (Broadleaf Books, August 2022) is inspired by God’s delight in the ordinary lives of kids and those who love them. Her fourth book, Ordinary Blessings for the Christmas Season (Broadleaf Books, October 2023) offers blessings for what is holy and hard about the holiday season.

“I write because I want to amplify what is already and always good enough. I imagine a world in which we are liberated from fear and shame, where everyone honors their real selves. It is good soil for planting consent, mercy, and joy that grow and flourish. It begins at home, in neighborhoods, in nature, in the ordinary. It begins with blessing.”

Meta laughs at her own jokes, dresses her pit bull in sweaters, and packs extra snacks just in case. She and her husband Matt have three kids who are funny and fiercely loved.

Meta’s’s Bible study will focus on “Blessing the Ordinary.”  The Bible is filled with stories of God’s delight for our ordinary lives, our mortality, and our good enough. This bible study is rooted in the promise that perfection was never the point. From the very beginning, God has called you good and very good. Meta draws on her experience as a parent, pastor, and poet to help us pay attention to what is sacred about our regular lives and fresh language for blessing the ordinary.

RESIDENT MUSICIAN: June 30 – July 6, 2024

We are excited to have Nick Ehrhardt joining our July family camp again in 2024!   Nick is no stranger to camp, serving in many and varied roles throughout the past 23 years.  Well, this summer, we’re excited to have Nick back during family camp in his newest role, as the Resident Musician for Family Camp 1.  Nick currently resides in Palmer Lake, CO working as an ICU nurse and building a house for his family.  Playing and writing music is the activity that keeps him sane between too many varied tasks.  You have probably seen him play at a picking party or camp talent show or two, and his name can be found in the credits of a handful of Rainbow Trail favorite camp songs.  You might run into him around Colorado playing at a local coffee shop or brewery, where he plays under the stage name Shorthand Charlie (www.shorthandcharlie.com).  Homegrown and handcrafted, blue stompin’ folk.  Original music built from the ground up.

BIBLE STUDY LEADER: August 4-10, 2024

We are excited to introduce the Rev. Jay Gamelin as the adult Bible study leader for our August family camp.

Jay Gamelin is a husband, father, pastor, musician, writer, and nationally acclaimed speaker. Jay is a gifted storyteller, an engaging leader, a humorist, and energetic presence with an unusual ability to describe the complexity of God and the walk of the disciple in simple, down-to-earth teaching. Jay has traveled extensively throughout the country and abroad sharing his gifts with synodical gatherings (ELCA), pastoral continuing education events, and workshops sharing his unique perspective of living for Christ in the post-modern era. Jay’s wonderful and amazing wife is Tia and they have three sons, Abel A, Roman Free, and Jude Oliver and a daughter, Eden. He currently serves as a pastor at Abiding Hope Lutheran Church in Littleton, CO.

Jay’s’s Bible study will focus on “I AM”.   When Moses encounters God, it re-orients his life and reframes his identity and purpose. During August Family Camp we will explore Moses’ 5 questions of the divine and explore these questions in our own lives as they continue to shape and reframe our own identities today.

RESIDENT MUSICIAN: August 4-10, 2024

We are excited to have Paul Bogart returning as our resident musician to our August family camp in 2024.  If you were to turn on an old transistor radio and tune it to a country station, you might hear legends like Merle Haggard, Hank Williams, and Johnny Cash crooning from the speakers…but Paul Bogart could just as easily fit alongside that vintage lineup.  Though his songs are fresh and he himself is young, he is an old soul with a knack for capturing time-honored traditions and summing up classic sentiments in catchy, three-minute songs. Exuding sincerity and a rare, down-to-earth charm, Paul Bogart is, simply put, the epitome of traditional country music. Paul comes to us from Oologah, Oklahoma.  Paul is married to Tanya and they have three kids, Jett, Ace, and a sweet baby girl named Gentry.
